The Independent Institute of Education’s (IIE) MSA campus delivered an outstanding performance at the Annual Gauteng Intercampus Sports Day, walking away as the overall champions. The event, which brought together student athletes from IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall, Sandton and Pretoria campuses, saw spirited competition across a range of sporting codes, with IIE MSA emerging dominant.
The campus secured an impressive tally of ten medals five gold, four silver and one bronze. Gold medals came from Volleyball, Men’s 5-Aside Football, Table Tennis (singles and doubles), and E-sports (FC 25). Silver medals were clinched in Ladies’ 5-Aside Football, Netball, Touch Rugby and 11-Aside Football, while the Basketball team proudly earned a bronze.
The Sports Day featured high-energy contests in Table Tennis, E-sports, Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, 5-Aside Football, 11-Aside Football and Touch Rugby. While the competition was fierce, the event’s true purpose extended beyond the medals. It aimed to encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and student wellbeing, while fostering a sense of unity across IIE campuses.
For many, the highlight was the spirited support from the stands, where students cheered for their peers with pride. Reithabetse Tladi, a third-year IIE Bachelor of Accounting student and President of The Voice at IIE MSA, reflected on the day’s significance:
“Intercampus is a tradition that is cherished by our students. The enthusiasm displayed by team players showcased dedication and commitment. Being able to watch students proudly represent their campuses and cheer for each other was a testament to the strong sense of community we have.”
The event also comes at an important time for IIE institutions. Varsity College, IIE MSA and IIE Vega School are in the process of becoming Emeris, the new educational brand under The Independent Institute of Education.
Although IIE MSA walked away with the most medals, the real triumph lay in the friendships, experiences and shared pride that students carried back to their campuses a reminder that Intercampus Sports Day is about more than just competition; it’s about community.
